A climate of change
Awareness of climate change and the effects of global warming have never been higher. The environment is becoming one of the most important themes of society in the 21st Century.
As individuals, we are all being encouraged to reduce our 'carbon footprint'; turn off TVs, use energy-savings bulbs, drive less polluting cars and so on. In business, too, companies and public sector organisations are taking action to reduce the impact we have on the environment. TSEU is the perfect example of how a business that takes environmental issues seriously can make a significant contribution to meeting the challenges faced by us all.
New technologies
Traffic management solutions that help to reduce congestion and manage traffic flow efficiently, new technologies and new products - such as the 3rd Generation LED traffic light featured in this edition of Signal - are only part of the story. The company has also taken steps to make sure that it’s whole organisation is based on environmentally sound principles.
"We have recently achieved full ISO 14001 environmental accreditation. We’ve also put in place standards for services such as disposal and recycling of old units that reduce the amount of material that, otherwise, would simply end up in a landfill," says Clare Tolhurst, Quality and Environmental Manager.
The global challenge
This holistic approach to environmental concerns - taking an overview covers the way the business works as well as the impact of products over their entire lifecycle - is, say TSEU, the way forward for every organisation.
It would be all too easy to look at the massive scale of the global challenges facing us. But, if each individual, each business and each public sector organisation does whatever it can, we believe that these challenges can firstly be controlled and ultimately overcome.
